How to Submit Skills for Approval in the Skills Tracker
The Skills Tracker is an excellent tool that allows you to showcase your abilities by submitting proof of your skills, whether through photos, videos, or certificates. This feature provides an easy way for your manager or administrator to approve your submissions.
The process in which you submit media for proof may vary depending on your company’s policies, but here are a few examples to help you understand how to submit your skills for approval.
Step 1: Navigate to the Skills Tracker
- From the home screen, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
- Select Skills Tracker from the menu.
- In the Skills Tracker, you’ll see all the topics and subtopics your employer has outlined.
Step 2: Begin a Skill Submission
- In the Skills Tracker, look for a button in the top-right corner labeled "Submit a Skill" (or similar).
- You’ll be prompted to attach proof of the skill.
- For Certifications: Take a picture or upload a PDF of the actual certificate.
- For Demonstrable Skills: For example, if you're submitting proof of knowing how to use a specific tool (like a drill), you could have a co-worker record you demonstrating the skill. Then, upload that video as your proof.
- Select the topic for which you are uploading for.
- Example: For a Forklift Certification, I may choose a topic like “OSHA Certifications.”
- Select the subtopic for the skill under that topic.
- Example: For “Forklift and Telehandler Certification,” choose the corresponding subtopic. Forklift and Telehandler Certification.
- Add a description or note explaining the submission for your manager or administrator.
Step 3: Submit for Approval
- Once everything is attached and filled out, tap "Submit for Approval."
- The skill submission is then sent to your manager or admin for review. They can approve it if they’ve seen the skill demonstrated in person or find the proof you provided sufficient.
Step 5: Track Your Skill Submission
You can track the status of your submission by:
- Navigating back to the topic in the Skills Tracker.
- Checking the subtopic:
- No Uploads: The subtopic will appear blank.
- Pending Approval: The subtopic will show a “Pending” status along with the upload date.
- Approved Skills: Once approved, it will display the name of the approver and the approval date.
That’s It!
Submitting a skill for approval in the Skills Tracker is quick and easy. With this feature, you can organize and demonstrate your skills in a streamlined process, giving you visibility into your development and achievements.
